Giving Back

GIVING BACK

At Jackknife we’re subscribed to the motto from our friend Ren Nevarro: “Do better, Be better.”

Our team is continually learning and finding ways to help people with the power of beer and zza.

Below you’ll find the causes that we’re supporting and click through to find out how you can help. Cheers friends!

KPU Diversity In Brewing Scholarship Program

Every year we donate to this great program in Langley, BC. Funding goes directly to help increase diversity in the brewing industry by sponsoring BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ individuals who are interested in taking the plunge into the beer world.

We hope to be a beacon of inclusion in the interior surrounding these issues. Equity, not equality!

Raven Trust

RAVEN raises legal defence funds for Indigenous Peoples in Canada to defend rights and the integrity of lands and cultures.

“Join us in our mission to provide access to justice for Indigenous Nations.

Supporting the assertion of the inherent and constitutionally-protected rights of Indigenous Peoples is a powerful pathway towards reconciliation and environmental justice. Working together we’ve raised millions of dollars to back some of the most groundbreaking legal challenges of our time.

Our First Nation partners have halted mines, stopped pipelines, and created better laws.

Take a stand for our common future. Join the RAVEN movement for Indigenous justice.”

Truth and Reconciliation day Donations

We’re donating all drink sale profits to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society on Sept 30th every year. We do this to raise awareness for Truth and Reconciliation and encourage our patrons and staff to look deeper into the atrocities of the residential school system.

IndigiNews

We have been donating and subscribing to the fine folks over at Indiginews. A rad group of journalists covering Indigenous communities in the Okanagan and on Vancouver Island and working towards more equitable media.

Mammas for Mammas

We will continually take time to reflect on the fact that we live and sling beer and zza on the unceded territory of the sqilxʷ/syilx Okanagan peoples.

We donated a portion of beer sales On July 1st, 2022, going to the Kelowna Indigenous Support Program at Mammas for Mammas. A fantastic organization, here’s a snippet from their program:

“Mamas for Mamas offers a community wide Indigenous support program, providing culturally sensitive and appropriate services to Aboriginal Individuals and families, both on- and off-reserve. This program is designed with the United National model of “Nothing About Us Without Us” and engages various levels of poverty relief and wellness supports to enhance their quality of life. “

If you have some time, head on over to their website and take a look at all the great work they’re doing. Consider supporting these great folks too!

Brave Noise

A collaboration with a big goal: A safe and discrimination free beer industry. Brewed to Raise funds for the Living Positive Resource Center in Kelowna.

The Brave Noise collab campaign raises awareness about the shitty underbelly of the brewing world, because it, like many industries, is riddled with owners and employees who have made work environments hell for many individuals. We agree that this needs to come to light so that it can stop.

We've said from day one, we aim to make Jackknife A SAFE SPACE. Some of us might look a little rough around the edges and you may get blasted with heavy metal once you step inside our doors, but by all means we're doing our damnedest to hold this ground and maintain zero tolerance for racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and any other ism that perpetuates hate.

Through this fundraising program we have been able to donate all of the proceeds from this international collab beer to a great local organization, the LPRC.

Breweries were asked to show their code of conduct on their sleeves, well, their website. If you haven’t seen ours yet, hit the link below to check out the living document.

Ukraine Aid

Kutya - Lemon Honey Wheat Ale - Collab with our friends Mike and Don from Unleashed Brewing

Resist - Anti-Imperial Beet ale - Brewed with Brad’s grandparents Alvin and Linda

Stickers by donation - All stickers from the past year have been by donation with proceeds going towards this cause

Raising funds for the war relief efforts in Ukraine through Pravda Brewing in Lviv, and the Outreach International group, an organization that helps to support LGBTQ+ folks who are displaced by the war.

World CentraL Kitchen Donations

“Across Ukraine, WCK is bringing hundreds of thousands of daily meals and pounds of food to over 9,000 distribution sites. Our efforts are not made possible without the community leaders, restaurant partners, and volunteers throughout the country who have displayed incredible bravery to ensure families have access to nourishing meals.“

Stay tuned for more fundraising beers as we go!

We couldn’t do this without you!

We have a huge passion for this community, thank you all so much for helping us along the way!

Cheers from team Jackknife!
